McNess Studios is located in a repurposed building at 8 Pier Street in the Perth CBD.
The space was launched in 2009 as an initiative of the Perth Youth Advisory Council and the City of Perth. It has housed a variety of creative practitioners and small businesses over the years, providing them with affordable working space and an outlet to showcase their work.
In 2012, McNess will operate a Residency Program, providing affordable studio facilities for Western Australian young contemporary creative practitioners. The program will facilitate professional development and skills development opportunities, foster dialogue and exchange between practitioners and young people and support the development of new work.
Residencies are offered for six months or a maximum period of twelve months and are open to Western Australian creative practitioners aged 30 and under who are Australian citizens or have a Permanent Residency status.
Practitioners working in disciplines such as small scale visual arts, craft and design are encouraged to apply. Students enrolled in tertiary institutions at the time of their proposed residency are eligible to apply. The program is guided by a commitment to cultural diversity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners are encouraged to apply.
