THE YEAR WAS 2006 An exhibition of 100 jewellery pieces made in 2006 19th – 30th June 2012 CELEBRATION DRINKS - Saturday 23rd June 4-6pm 2006. It was a common year that started on a Sunday. John Howard was PM and Pluto was no longer classified as a planet. It is often bandied about that art is a reflection of our society; intrigued, we set out to find what 2006 might have looked like in terms of contemporary jewellery. 100 jewellers from across the globe have been invited to present one piece of jewellery they made 6 years ago. Presented as a salon hang, this exhibition will showcase an incredibly diverse array of jewellery and will give an overall snapshot of what these jewellers were thinking, making and the materials they were using all those years ago in 2006. A quick plug for an interesting online exhibition idea - Behind the Brooch

"I have always thought that the back of any jewelry piece is as important as the front. I always try to have something on the back of my pieces as a surprise for the wearer and also because I think it says a lot about the maker. Most of the work I do has a detail on the back, I enjoy very much doing it.

Lately I started making brooches but I was very curious to see how other artists were making their pin backs and the back of their designs. I looked for inspiration everywhere but it was very hard to find images of the back side of the brooches.




This is why I think having an online exhibition in Crafthaus about showing the front and back side of a brooch will be a great and very inspirational tool for a lot of artists.

This exhibition is open to all and in any medium.

DEADLINE: August 1st, 2012.

Artist Notification will be via email on September 1st, 2012.

The exhibition will run from October 1st to November 1st, 2012.

To be eligible for this exhibition, submitted work must be designed and made by the artist.

Your entry must include:

• Up to 3 pieces .jpg images (front and back side of the brooch)
  72 dpi no larger than 800 pixels in any direction
• Title of the brooch, material list and dimensions
• A brief statement of your work

• The all too fabulous Hannah Carlyle is off to Haystack Mountain School of Craft in Maine, USA june 10-22 with Helen Shirk. Followed by traveling for 7 weeks visiting galleries and foodie haunts. If you have any suggestions for her -send an email via her website. Not jealous much.
• Stay tuned -Hannah will host a workshop of new tricks when she returns at the Jam.
• Hannah is also embarking on some collaborative pieces with studio-mate Leanne Marshall 'Plastic Fantastic' to be exhibited at studio 20/17 in October this year

Mini Cabinet Application -Urban Cow is a gallery with a fantastic reputation and has been exhibiting and promoting South Australian artists work for 15 years. We have a huge amount of walk through traffic including regular tourists. Always striving to be an interesting unique space for artists to share their work.

Urban Cow has had a wonderful time exhibiting the Mini Cabinet artists over the last 2years. We have had great feedback from customers and artists alike. With some wonderful sales, some artists even selling out!!!! We are now expanding to have 2 feature cabinets, one to facilitate jewellers and one to facilitate objects (ceramic, felt, glass, paper, fabric, metal etc) makers. We are inviting you to apply for the space from July 2012-July 2013. Your artworks will be on display for a month in our busy little gift shop. You will also have a mini opening that will coincide with the gallery space upstairs, meaning that we will have 3 exhibition openings on the one night…..three times the people at your opening J, three times the promotion JJ and three times the exposure JJJ. The mini cabinet exhibition fee is $80 (to be paid upon acceptance), this will hold your space. Would you like to apply? The Art Gallery of South Australia has opened a new exhibition in Gallery 19A 20 YEARS: Rhianon Vernon-Roberts Memorial Collection of contemporary Australian jewellery. For the first time the complete collection is on display and is a marvelous record of contemporary jewellery. This free exhibition runs until mid-September. Go have a look. Then go have a look again. The Gallery’s collection of contemporary Australian jewellery is being exhibited in its glorious entirety, for the very first time.

The Rhianon Vernon-Roberts Memorial Collection, established in late 1991, consists of more than one hundred items of jewellery by fifty-five innovative contemporary jewellers, making it one of the most important collections of its type in Australia. The collection promotes one-off, experimental studio jewellery developed for exhibition. From precious materials to found forms, the jewellery in the exhibition highlights the capacity of artists to push material and conceptual boundaries.

The Rhianon Vernon-Roberts Memorial Collection was established and is actively supported by Dr. Jane and Prof. Barrie Vernon-Roberts AO in memory of their daughter and talented jeweller, Rhianon (1964–1990).

However you may not know  that there are artist talks this Saturday 2pm, 25th Feb in Gallery 1  with fabulous interstate artists Anna Davern and Roseanne Bartley talking about their practice and using found objects (short notice I know).

Anna Davern was asked to make a brooch for Madame Brussels who was the proprietor of an infamous brothel in Melbourne’s Little Lonsdale Street during the late 19th century. Anna Davern's blog

The Joyaviva project - live jewellery that changes your world

Joyaviva has recently opened at RMIT Gallery, Melbourne. So begins a journey across the Pacific, to explore how the power of jewellery might be renewed for contemporary challenges.

21 jewellers from Australia, New Zealand and Chile draw from their cultures to create objects that can change our lives. Others will join from Bolivia and Mexico when Joyaviva is in Latin America, and the stories will grow as more people host the charms.

Objects in Joyaviva were created for issues relevant to the jewellers world, including recent earthquakes, road deaths, school exams, fertility, managerialism or sheer exuberant sociability. The exhibition combines the charms themselves with documentation of their use, including diaries, photos, videos and drawings.
